Birth of disease:
A diet taken according to the constitution, season, type of preparation, time of hunger and digestive capacity will nourish the tissues of our body mainly Rasa (Plasma), Rakta ( blood), Mamsa ( flesh), Meda (fat), Asthi (Bone tissues) Majja ( marrow) and sukla ( Principle of progeny, immunity). The Rasa or the essence of the food travels from one to another leading to the proper nourishment after the transformation taking place in each tissue.
An improper digestion by the less capacity of digestive fire ( Jadhara Agni), an excess of intake of food, a less intake of food, food which is not good for the constitution, season, in improper time or when the hunger is not present etc leads to the derangement of digestive fire.
That will lead to improper formation of the first tissue or rasa. This is called as ama or toxins in Ayurveda. The ama passes through the deeper tissues just like the rasa passes and derange the tissues. From each tissue according to the amount of ama, the disease can produce. Ama can be blocked in any of the tissues and produces the diseases.
For example:
if the first tissue, Plasma (Rasa) is deranged or blocked comes forth the problems like
- anorexia
- heaviness of the body
- general weakness
- nausea
- vomiting
- indigestion
- constipation
- fever.
By the course of time the ama passes to the next tissue and produces diseases of the Blood (Rakta) or Pitta in origin
- skin rashes
- psoriasis
- infections
- food allergies
- ulcer
If the person suppress these symptoms without finding out a solution for removing this ama- toxins, it passes to the next tissue. The person is indulged with the same type of bad food habits etc will further produce the production of ama and that will results in a larger amount of accumulation of ama in the tissues . Sometimes the ama will only produce the disease in the tissue which is weak in that particular person. Like this the ama flows in to deeper tissues by a considerable course of time from blood to muscles (Mamsa). Produce, tumours or disorders of the connective tissue which are Kapha in origin.
- myomas
- cyst
Then ama passes to the next tissue namely fat (Meda) produces diseases of Kapha in origin.
- obesity
- diabetes
The ama pases again to the deeper tissue from fat to bone tissue (Asthi) and produces diseases of Vata in origin mainly the bone, joint and nervous system disorders.
- osteoporosis
- arthritis
- sciatic neuritis
Later, ama enters to marrow (Majja) produces diseases like life threatening disorders.
- brain disorders
- Alzheimer
- Parkinson’s,
- epilepsy
- brain tumours
Later the immunity principle (Sukla) is deranged by the ama which will lead to
- immune deficiency disorders
- Infertility
- chromosomal disorders
- deformed child
- a bad progeny.
So Ayurveda explains a process of toxins entering in to each tissue in course of time producing several diseases from each tissue. It is the same ama in different amount leads to several kinds of problems in different tissue levels.
An indigestion or fever is a smaller disease which is in the first tissue compared to a disease of arthritis or osteoporosis in fifth tissue. But the toxins from the food and activities for the problems are same, only the amount of toxins are different.
The idea of treatment is bringing back the toxins from the deeper tissues in the reverse direction of nutrition to the gastro intestinal tract and to cleanse. This procedure is called as Panchakarma.
Physician should understand from the serial of questions and other several methods explained in the ayurvedic diagnosis, which tissue is deranged and with which dosha is responsible and how much amount of toxins (ama) is involved from the different kinds of symptoms of the patient.
Physician will find out a plant or a combination of plants which will affect in the particular tissue which is used in different forms or different medium like oil, decoction, ghee, fermented preparation, powders etc according to the dosha qualities.
The deranged tridosha passes from one tissue to the other deeper tissue as toxins or „ama“ in course of time and produces different diseases in each tissue. The deeper the toxins means chronic the diseases.
